Abstract

1387780 Spray dispensing-packet G REINER 12 Nov 1973 [13 Nov 1972 31 Aug 1973] 52398/73 Heading B8C A convenience packet of relatively small weight and volume for dispensing a liquid in spray-form comprises two oppositely-disposed flexible walls which are sealed together at the peripheral edges 12 thereof, resilient means 17 for normally holding said walls apart, and a branched tube 13, 14 within the packet, said branched tube consisting of a main stem 13 having two ends one of said ends being proximate one edge of said packet defining a corner 18 and the other of said ends being within the body of said packet, and at least one side-tube joining said main stem at an angle and proximate said one end, said corner being adapted for easy removal to expose said one end, the lengths of said main stem and said branch tube being such that said other end of said main stem is immersed in such liquid as may be within said packet, and said side-tube is above said liquid when said corner is uppermost. The packet 11, Fig. 1, made, e.g. of metal foil, plastics film, plastics lined paper, or other similar material, is completely sealed around its periphery 12 the main stem 13 and the branches 14, 14 of the tube being also formed by appropriate seals between the two walls of the packet 11, the said two walls being held apart by a resilient insert 17 preferably of open cellular construction. In operation, the corner 18 is separated from the packet 11, e.g. by tearing, or cutting along the tear line 19, and the container 11 is squeezed, preferably at the region of the insert 17 so that liquid flows through the central stem 13 and air through the branch tubes 14 the liquid and air streams meeting just below the opened end of the packet to form a fine dispersion, or spray. The branch tube can be prepared externally of the packet and then inserted prior to sealing the periphery of the packet. The inner end of the central stem preferably terminates, as shown in Fig. 1, near to the insert 17. In a modification, Figs. 8-11, not shown, the packet is formed by heat-sealing two walls (31, 32) together along their periphery, a small passage, provided at a corner (34), being intercepted by a tear line (33) to provide an opening (34) in the packet. The two walls (31, 32) are also sealed together along a line (36) to form two channels (37, 38) which extend respectively into portions of the packet which contain liquid and air, A resilient member (39) formed of polyethylene tube or closed-cell foam material, is accommodated in the packet. The packet is adapted to dispense liquids, e.g. perfume, toilet water, lubricating oil, &c.
