Abstract

1331315 Containers L GOGLIO 14 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970 18 Feb 1970 23 March 1970] 1971/71 Heading B8D A container for liquid or granular foodstuff comprises a premoulded plastics bottom 2 and a flexible body 1 which is heat-sealed to the side 4 of the bottom 2. The body may be formed from a single sheet folded to either form a tubular body 7 having a single longitudinal seal (Fig. 5) or two opposed sheet portions having a pair of longitudinal edge seals (Fig. 8a). The body may also be formed from a pair of sheets (101, 102, Fig. 8) sealed along their longitudinal edges (110, 111, Fig. 6). The material of the body may comprise double, triple, quadruple or quintruplicate layers of cellophane (R.T.M.)-polyethylene, cellophane-aluminium-polyethylene, polyesterpolythene, polypropylene-polyethylene, paperpolythene thin board-polyethylene, thin boardaluminium polythene. The side wall 4 of the bottom 2 may be generally elliptical, Fig. 2, (Figs. 7, 8, 13), conical or a configuration which in end elevation comprises interconnected arcuate lines. The bottom 2 may be of polyethylene or polypropylene and may have strengthening ribs 8 and support ribs (108, Fig. 9). The side 4 has a lower flange 5 and is tapered to permit stacking of the bottoms. The latter may also have planar extensions (107, Figs. 8, 10, 13) for fusing within the longitudinal edge seals between the pair of sheets or sheet portions of the body (Fig. 10). The bottom may include a fluid impermeable sheet (209, Figs. 12, 13) on the upper and/or lower surface of the bottom (Fig. 12). The sheet may comprise at least one layer of aluminium and at least one layer of thermoplastio adhesive e.g. polythene, polypropylene or may comprise a layer of aluminium bonded to the bottom by insertion in the injection moulding die of the latter.
