Abstract

877,692. Vehicle windows. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE A. G. Jan. 16, 1958 [Jan. 16, 1957], No. 1596/58. Class 137 A motor vehicle quarter-light is actuated by a device comprising a member resiliently urging the quarter-light into the closed position and movable into the open position by the difference in pressure between the inside and outside of the vehicle. As shown, a quarter-light 1 has secured to it a bracket 7 the free end of which is slotted and is pivotally attached to one arm 5b of a toggle 5b, 5a, the free end of the arm 5a being attached to a fixed bracket 6. A second toggle, 8, 9 has one end pivoted to a pin on the bracket 7 and the other pivoted to the arm 5b, a spring 10 urging the arms into the closed position. When, due to the movement of the vehicle, the pressure outside the vehicle is reduced, the pressure inside overcomes the resistance of the spring 10 and the quarter-light opens to an extent depending on the difference in pressure. A hook 12 may lock the device in the closed position and the toggle- 5a, 5b, may be used to open the quarterlight manually. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the spring 10 is replaced by a spiral spring, adjustable in tension, the second toggle is housed within the arm 5b, and the device may be locked in the closed position by moving the second toggle beyond the dead centre position.
