Abstract
An austenitic steel, which may be used for superheater tubing, steam pipes or headers, or tailpipes of gas turbine engines, has the following composition by weight:-Cr 12 to 18%, Ni 6 to 20%, Mn 3 to 10%, C 0.05 to 0.15%, B 0.005 to 0.075%, Nb and/or Ta at least 0.5%, with or without V, the total of Nb+Ta+V up to 3% Mo 0.5 to 4%, and W 0 to 3.5%, the total of Mo+W up to 4%, with or without incidental impurities, the balance being Fe. From 0.4 to 0.6% Si may be present.
