Abstract

876,066. Crop-spraying apparatus. MICRON SPRAYERS Ltd., and BALS, E. J. Dec. 6, 1957 [Dec. 6, 1956], No. 37391/56. Class 69 (3). A rotary atomizer head is composed of an assembly of spaced annular plates 25, Fig. 3, to the central parts of which liquid is fed via a tube 40 and from the outer peripheries it is thrown in atomized form. The plates are of corrugated form and are clamped to a carrier plate 24 by screws 37 and nuts. The plates are spaced by bosses 31 and peripheral flanges 33, through the latter of which circumferentially spaced outlet slots 33a extend. The plates are driven from the shaft 16 of an I.C. engine 10, Fig. 1, and a duct 15 is attached to the engine and surrounds a rotary hub 17 attached to the engine shaft. Fan blades 18 on the hub cause the atomized liquid to be blown to the crops. Stationary blades 20 extend between the duct 15 and an inner stationary drum 19 and damp out swirling of the airstream. The feed tube 40 passes through the parts 15 and 19, and its delivery end is received in a stationary disc 39 which substantially closes the central orifice of the endmost plate 25. The engine and its petrol tank are supported by the links 47, 48, Fig. 4, of a framework engaging trunnions 45, 46 on the engine cylinder, whereby the spray can be directed as desired. In a further embodiment the bladed hub and drum parts are omitted and the head is manually driven through gearing. Specification 876,067 is referred to.
