Abstract

A carriage 5 supports a fan blower 8 which drives air through a duct 12, a flexible hose 13, and a liquid atomising duct 26. An internal combustion engine 9 drives the fan and also an air compressor 18 which applies pressure to liquid in a container 19, and the liquid is fed through a pipe 25 to the duct 26. The latter contains a spider comprising hollow arms 31 which support a centrifugal liquid atomiser 30, comprising spaced sleeve members 44, 46 mounted on bearings 39 which are carried on a stationary spindle 33 held within a boss 32. The outer sleeve has blades 51, and the passage of air through the duct rotates the atomiser which is fed with the liquid through a hollow arm 31, passages 35, 36 and radial passages 38. The liquid travels along the inner surface of the outer sleeve and is thrown outwardly from its rim into the air stream. A ring 61 in the duct ensures a more uniform distribution of the sprayed liquid. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, a body 52 rotates on a spindle 33, and spaced sleeves 53 are supported from the body by blades 55, and a part of the air flow passes between the sleeves. Liquid is fed to one or more of the spider arms 31 and passes from pipes 56 and nozzles 57 towards the outer sleeve. The duct 12, Fig. 1, is rotatably mounted on a bearing 11, and the elevation of the spray outlet can be adjusted by a handle 14 and gearing 17.
