Abstract
1,017,115. Crop sprayers. SOC. MECHANIQUE ET TEXTILE DE L'ARDECHE SOTONA. June 26, 1962 [June 27, 1961; Nov. 13, 1961], No. 24561/62. Heading B2F. A crop sprayer comprises a rotating member having a cusp-like point at its centre at which liquid is projected, the liquid then being urged by centrifugal force towards the periphery of the member at which point it is travelling with a component in a direction opposite to that in which the liquid was originally projected, and where it then mingles with an air stream also flowing in said opposite direction. A hollow cylindrical body 1, Fig. 1, is mounted at 3 for rotational adjustment and is flared at 1a for an air inlet and widens at 1b for an outlet for atomized liquid. Liquid, which can be of pasty consistency, is squirted from a nozzle 14 against the tip 12a of a cuspshaped hub 10a of a member keyed at the end of a shaft 6. The member 10 is a dished disc with its concave side facing the nozzle 14. Between it and the nozzle, and mounted on the hub 10a, is another dished disc 12, spaced from the disc 10 and similarly disposed. It is perforated at 12b. The driving shaft 6 carries a fan 9. Centrifugal action carries the liquid to the periphery of the discs, whence it is carried by the air current from the fan in a fine liquid fog, the character of which may be varied by exchanging the fan, as well as by controlling the liquid supply. A modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), includes a set of fixed helical blades for imparting a rotational movement to the air current. The apparatus or more than one such apparatus may be mounted on a single bar with universal adjustment.
