Abstract
874,736. Bed settees &c. O-SO-KO-SI UPHOLSTERY (1939) Ltd. July 21, 1959 [Sept. 22, 1958], No. 30227/58. Class 52(2). In a bedsettee having a base 10 and pivotal back-rest 11 carried by members 13 pivoted to the base at 12, a fixed toothed rack 17 is mounted on the settee base and a rider 16 is slidably mounted on the rack, its lower end having a cam slot 18 co-operating with a pin 19 on a link 15 pivoted to a member 13 and formed with a pointed end 20 which can engage the teeth 22 of rack 17 and act as a pawl under the influence of a leaf spring 23. A spring 25 frictionally engaging the top surface of the rack 17 prevents movement of the rider 16 when pin 19 moves in the cam slot but allows movement when the pin acts on the edge of the slot in a horizontal direction. To change the position of the backrest it is brought into the vertical position so that end 20 engages the plain part of the rack; the backrest is then lowered to the desired position and lifted slightly to bring pin 19 backward along upper edge 28 of the slot and allow the pawl 20 to enter the gap between two teeth.
