Abstract

964,995. Seats. SENG CO. Sept 26, 1961 [Feb. 20, 1961], No. 34421/61. Heading A4J. A seat 13 is rotatably supported on a spindle 15 the height of which can be adjusted with respect to a base 11. A back rest 14 can tilt against the resistance of a compression spring 32 and is carried by a pair of arms 23 pivoted about a horizontal pin 24. The upper end of the spring 32 is seated in a retainer 34 eccentrically surrounding the spring so that as the arms 23 are tilted downwardly the retainer moves telescopically and transversely with respect to the spindle until it abuts the spindle and prevents further downward movement of retainer 34, arms 23 and back rest 14. The upper position of the back rest is determined by engagement of a web 29 connecting the arms 23 with a resilient bumper 30. Adjustment of a bushing 33 which seats the lower end of the spring varies the resilient force of the spring 32.
