Abstract
869,234. Microphones; diaphragms. KNOWLES, H. S. Sept. 17, 1957 [Oct. 11, 1956], No. 29214/57. Class 40 (4). The sensitivity of a microphone, particularly for use in a deaf-aid, is improved by connecting cavities on the two sides of the diaphragm by a tube of the type described in Specification 382,268. A rectangular capsule, Figs. 1 and 2, for use in a deaf-aid, has a restricted aperture 59 for the ingress of sound to a diaphragm 46 connected by a tube 72 to an armature 62 of a transducer. The tube 72 also, Fig. 4, connects the cavities on the two sides of the diaphragm, and may be made integral with the diaphragm 46. A number of short tubes 84, 86, 88, 90, Fig. 7, may be provided in the diaphragm and substantially normal thereto, or tubes may be provided in the plane of the diaphragm, Figs. 9, 11, 12.
