Abstract
867,065. Liquid-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 29, 1959 [Oct. 4, 1958], No. 33001/59. Class 38 (5). An oil-blast circuit-breaker comprises a movable contact 5 having a channel 13 and opening 14 and co-operable with a fixed contact 2 mounted in a closed pressure-generating chamber 3 forming part of an insulating container 1 enclosing a pressure-accumulating chamber 6, which has a sealed space 17 and is mounted by supports 11 providing an annular slot 12 communicating with the remaining space in container 1. During the initial contact separation the breaking gases pass from chamber 3 via spaces 13, 14 to the space 17 until the foot of contact 5 reaches the opening 4 and the openings 14 enter the sealed opening 8. Further contact movement uncovers the opening 7 to produce an arc-extinguishing oil blast under the pressure in space 17, oil being expelled to the container 1 through the slot 12 and the spaces 13, 14, so that the oil levels in container 1 and chamber 6 equalize automatically after the breaking operation. The chamber 3 may communicate with container 1 through a safety valve 18 and channel 19. In a modification, Fig. 2, the pressure-accumulating chamber 25 has an extra opening 20 communicating with the container 23 through a cross-channel 21 normally closed by the moving contact 22.
