Abstract

382,655. Oil switches. JUHLIN, G. A., Redscar, Moss Lane, EHRENBERG, A. C., 34, Greenway Road, both in Timperley, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. July 29, 1931, No. 21704. [Class 38 (v).] In an oil currentbreaker of the explosion pot type a subsidiary structure. with transverse oil passages 6, 15, Fig. 1, and normally a closed chamber 11 between them is provided to direct a stream of oil on to the arc as the movable electrode 1 leaves the fixed electrode 3 mounted in the explosion chamber 2. The passages 6, 15 communicate with the oil in the tank and the passage 6 communicating through the orifice 20 with the explosion chamber. A small vertical wall 18 is built across the explosion chamber dividing the fixed contact 3 from the orifice 20. The spacing washers 8, 8a which form the passages 6, 15 are shaped as shown in Fig. 5 with a reduced part where the contact 1 passes and a flared portion beyond. More than one closed chamber 11 may be employed. In a modification, the wall 18 and orifice 20 are dispensed with.
