Abstract

A solution suitable for the treatment of hair comprises a mixture in water and methyl, ethyl, propyl, or isopropyl alcohol of a carboxylcontaining polymer in which a substantial proportion of the acid groups are neutralized with an amine containing an alkyl group of C10 to C20 carbon atoms, and the remainder or part thereof are neutralized by salt formation with water-soluble alkaline substance. The carboxyl-containing polymer may be polymethacrylic acid or a partially hydrolysed polymethyl methacrylate or the polymers described in Specifications 575,512, 799,200, and 799,951. The solutions may also contain tinting colours and perfumes. The alkylamine may be dodecylamine, di-dodecylamine, or tri-dodecylamine. The alkaline substance may be an alkali hydroxide a-mono,- di- or tri-ethanolamine, or ammonia.ALSO:A toilet preparation suitable for conditioning and/or assisting in the setting of hair comprises an alginic acid or a carboxly-containing polymer in which a substantial proportion of the acid groups are neutralised with an amine containing an alkyl group of C10 to C20 carbon atoms, and the remainder or a part thereof are neutralized by salt formation with a water-soluble alkaline substance, dissolved in water and methyl, ethyl, propyl or isopropyl alcohol. The solution may also contain tinting colours and perfumes. The carboxyl-containing polymer may be polymethacrylic acid or a partially hydrolysed polymethyl methacrylate or a polymer described in Specifications 575,512, 799,200, and 799,951. The alkylamine may be dodecylamine, didodecylamine, or tri-dodecylamine. The alkaline substance may be an alkali hydroxide, a mono-di- or triethanolamine, or ammonia.
