Abstract

An anti-sunburn and sun tan preparation consists of triethanolamine salicylate, a gelatinous or mucilaginous vehicle, e.g., aqueous suspension of sodium alginate or gum tragacanth, an astringent, e.g., liquid extract of witch hazel, a humectant, e.g., glycerol, and a substance, e.g., alkali or base such as triethanolamine for adjusting the pH to 7-8. Other ingredients common in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations of this type, e.g., perfumes, dyes, pigments and insect repellents, may be present. Where sodium alginate is used it may be thickened by the addition of calcium chloride.
