Abstract

The invention comprises gels prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of aluminium chlorhydrate (Al2(OH)5Cl) with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium, aliphatic amine or heterocyclic amine salt of a saturated unsubstituted or monohydroxy-substituted monobasic carboxylic acid containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms, the molecular ratio of aluminium chlorhydrate to salt being in the range 1:3 to 8:1 inclusive. Glycerol, glycols, alcohol and water may also be added to the mixture. Preferred salts are lactates and acetates, and specified amines are ethanolamine and morpholine. The mixture may be heated to reduce the setting time. Examples use sodium lactate, ammonium, calcium, potassium, and triethanolamine acetates, and calcium propionate. The gels are of use as antiperspirants (see Group VI).ALSO:The invention comprises gels, suitable for use as antiperspirants, prepared by mixing an aqueous solution of aluminium chlorhydrate (Al2(OH)5Cl) with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, ammonium, aliphatic amine or heterocyclic amine salt of a saturated unsubstituted or mono-hydroxy-substituted monobasic carboxylic acid containing 2 or 3 carbon atoms, the molecular ratio of aluminium chlorhydrate to organic acid salt being from 1 : 3 to 8 : 1. Humectants such as glycerol, propylene glycol or sorbitol, perfume, colouring matter, alcohol, or other cosmetic substances may be incorporated in the gel.
