Abstract
Aqueous solutions of ascorbic acid are stabilized for storage and distribution by addition of glycerol in quantity not less than 50 per cent of the total volume; an alcohol may also be present up to 25 per cent. The process is preferably carried out in an inert atmosphere such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide. The examples show the proportions used of (1) ascorbic acid, glycerol and water; and (2) ascorbic acid, glycerol, ethanol and water.ALSO:A therapeutic remedy for incorporation in food or medicine comprises ascorbic acid in aqueous solution stabilized for storage or distribution by the addition of glycerol to the extent of not less than 50 per cent of the total volume. An alcohol may also be present up to 25 per cent. The examples show the proportions used of 1 ascorbic acid, glycerol and water; 2 ascorbic acid glycerol, ethanol and water.
