Abstract

10-Amino-decanoic acid is prepared by causing a solution of ammonia, preferably an aqueous, alcoholic or aqueous alcoholic soluton to react with 10-bromo-decanoic acid. In examples: (1) 10-bromodecanoic acid is treated with ammonia and the product is recrystallized after acidification in a hot aqueous solution, separation of imino-didecanoic acid and the addition of ammonia; (2) a similar process is carried out using a reaction medium containing ethyl alcohol and water. 10-Bromo-decanoic acid is stated to be prepared by the oxidation of 1-bromo-10-undecylene or by the action of an acetic acid solution of hydrobromic acid upon 10-hydroxy-decanoic acid.
