Abstract

The invention comprises the thiosemicarbazone of nicotinic aldehyde, and the preparation thereof by condensing nicotinic aldehyde with thiosemicarbazide in an aqueous alcoholic or acetic acid medium. The product is useful for the treatment of tuberculosis. In examples: (1) nicotinic aldehyde and thiosemicarbazide are heated in aqueous ethanol; (2) the symmetrical hydrazide of nicotinic acid and benzene sulphonic acid is heated with sodium carbonate in ethylene glycol, the resulting reaction mixture containing nicotinic aldehyde is acidified with aqueous acetic acid through which the evolved nitrogen has been bubbled to trap any aldehyde carried over thereby, and the acidified solution is heated with thiosemicarbazide.
