Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0729348/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents a piperonylidene or an a - or g -picolylidene radical, and a process for their preparation by condensing the appropriate pyridine acid hydrazide with piperonal or a - or g -pyridine aldehyde. The compounds may also be obtained by reacting a heterocyclic aldehyde hydrazone with a pyridine carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof. In examples: (1) nicotinic acid hydrazide is refluxed with piperonal in methanol to yield the piperonal hydrazone of nicotinic acid hydrazide; (2) isonicotinic acid hydrazide and piperonal are refluxed in ethanol to give the piperonal hydrazone of isonicotinic acid hydrazide; (3) as in (2) replacing piperonal by a -pyridine aldehyde to yield the a -pyridine aldehyde hydrazone of isonicotinic acid hydrazide; (4) as in (2) replacing piperonal by g -pyridine aldehyde to yield the g -pyridine aldehyde hydrazone of isonicotinic acid hydrazide.
