Abstract

A denture cleansing composition comprises an admixture of pyruvic acid or a pyruvate with succinic acid or a succinate, the preparation liquefying mucus by acting in conjunction with enzymes found therein and in saliva. Other substances such as abrasives, ethereal oils, glycerine, mucilages and disinfectants may be added.ALSO:A preparation for reducing the viscosity of, or for liquefying, mucus comprises pyruvic acid or pyruvates together with succinic acid or succinates. The preparation acts in conjunction with enzymes found in mucus.ALSO:A preparation for reducing the viscosity of, or for liquifying, mucus comprises pyruvic acid or pyruvates together with succinic acid or succinates. The preparation which acts in conjunction with enzymes found in mucus and saliva may be incorporated in dentifrices, mouthwashes, mouthwash tablets, denture cleansers, ointments, gargles, chewing gums, &c., or may be employed as aerosols for inhalation. Other substances such as ethereal oils, abrasives, glycerine, mucilages, disinfectants and antibiotics may be added. According to an example, sodium pyruvate, sodium succinate, glycerine, gum tragacanth and water are mixed to form a paste, ethereal oils being subsequently added.
