Abstract

A plaster of Paris composition contains keratinous stockyards refuse as retarder and a mixture of one or more organic acids and an alkali or alkaline earth. Such a composition remains workable till the final hardening is complete. Formic, oxalic, tartaric and citric acids are mentioned as suitable organic acids. In examples, details are given of plaster of Paris compositions containing keratinous stockyards refuse, oxalic acid, and hydrated lime. The Provisional Specification refers to plaster of Paris compositions containing keratinous stockyards refuse and organic acids alone, or keratinous stockyards refuse and salts of organic acids added in the combined condition.
