Abstract

563,019. Plaster of Paris. HADDON, C. L., CAFFERATA, B. J., and BRITISH PLASTER BOARD, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1942, No. 18125. [Class 1 (iii)] Plaster of Paris is produced by autoclaving ground or precipitated gypsum or ground plaster moulds, with the addition to the gypsum and water of one or more of the following acidssuccinic, maleic, malic or citric acids, or their soluble salts. When necessary sufficient carbonate is added to the autoclaving liquor to neutralize any free acid present. Example : 4 kgm. of minus 80 mesh gypsum, 4 litres of water, 2 gm. precipitated chalk and 4 gm. citric acid were autoclaved for 1 hour at 140‹ C. Specifications 3225/03, 26007/03 and 5853/04, [all in Class 1], are referred to.
