Abstract

A shampoo composition comprises (a) an aqueous solution of an anionic detergent having dissolved therein (b) one or more nitroamino dyes of formula <FORM:0889327/III/1> wherein n is 1 or 2, and (c) a fatty acid alkanolamide which is present in an amount which substantially increases the apparent solubility of the dye. Anionic detergents referred to are sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, sec-alkyl or lauryl sulphate, or dioctyl sulphosuccinate; triethanolamine oleate; or mono- or tri-ethanolamine lauryl sulphate. The dye suitably comprises 0,5-2% by weight of the composition and is preferably 4-nitro-1:2-diaminobenzene, 2-nitro-1:4-diaminobenzene, or 2-amino-4:6-dinitrophenol. The alkanolamide is suitably the diethanolamide or mono-isopropanolamide of lauric or coconut fatty acid, and is usually present in an amount of 2-25% by weight of the composition. Glycol monostearate and cetyl alcohol may also be incorporated. Specification 707,618 is referred to.ALSO:Hair may be tinted by the use of a shampoo composition comprising an aqueous solution of (a) an anionic detergent having dissolved therein, (b) one or more nitroamino dyes of formula <FORM:0889327/IV (c)/1> wherein n is 1 or 2, and (c) a fatty acid alkanolamide which is present in an amount which substantially increases the apparent solubility of the dye. Anionic detergents referred to are sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate, sec-alkyl or lauryl sulphate, or dioctyl sulphosuccinate, triethanolamine oleate, or mono- or tri-ethanolamine lauryl sulphate. The dye suitably comprises 0.5%-2% by weight of the composition and is preferably 4-nitro-1 : 2-diaminobenzene, 2-nitro-1 : 4-diaminobenzene, or 2-amino-4 : 6-dinitrophenol. The alkanolamide is suitably the diethanolamide or monoisopropanolamide of lauric or coconut fatty acid, and is usually present in an amount of 2%-25% by weight of the composition. Glycol monostearate and cetyl alcohol may also be incorporated. Specification 707,618 is referred to.
