Abstract

A tinting shampoo comprises an aqueous solution containing a mono- or di-alkanolamide of a long chain fatty acid containing at least 12 carbon atoms, such as lauric, stearic or coconut fatty acids, a mono- or poly-hydroxy-naphthoquinone (dyestuff) and an anionic detergent, e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate or triethanolamine lauryl sulphate. Lactic acid may also be included.ALSO:Keratinous fibres, particularly human hair, are dyed with a composition comprising an aqueous solution of a mono- or di-alkanolamide of a fatty acid containing at least 12 carbon atoms, such as lauric, stearic or coconut fatty acids, and a mono- or poly-hydroxy-naphthoquinone, the amount of the latter in the solution being in excess of its solubility in water at room temperature and the amount of the alkanolamide in the solution being sufficient to solubilize all the hydroxy-naphthoquinone employed. Specified hydroxy-naphthoquinones are 2-hydroxy-1 : 4-, 5-hydroxy-1 : 4-, 5 : 8-dihydroxy-1 : 4- and 5 : 7 : 8-trihydroxy-1 : 4-naphthoquinone. An anionic detergent such as sodium lauryl sulphate or triethanolamine lauryl sulphate may also be included in the solution.
