Abstract

An aqueous shampoo composition comprises, by weight, (a) 8-20% of a sodium N-acyl-N-methyl taurate or a mixture of such a salt with up to an equal amount of sodium, magnesium or triethanolamine alkyl sulphate, the acyl and alkyl groups each containing 10-18 carbon atoms, (b) 6-50% of (a) of an alkanolamide of a fatty acid containing 10-14 carbon atoms and (c) 6-50% of (a) of a compound of the formula <FORM:0843379/III/1> where R1 and R2 are alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms, and R3 is <FORM:0843379/III/2> where R4 and R5 are also alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms, the total weight of (b) and (c) together being 20-75% of (a). Component (a) preferably comprises sodium N-coconut acyl-N-methyl taurate and triethanol-amine lauryl sulphate; (b) is usually lauric diethanolamide; (c) is suitably 3:6-dimethyl-4-octyne-3:6-diol, 2:5-dimethyl-3-hexyne-2:5-diol, or 3:6-dimethyloctaine-3:6-diol. The composition desirably also includes 6-30% of (a) of a fatty alcohol containing 10 - 14 carbon atoms, desirably lauryl alcohol, and 10-65% of (a) of the triethanolamine salt of a fatty acid having 10-18 carbon atoms. Diethanolamine (or other free alkanolamine), perfumes, germicides, dyes, stabilizers, and sequestering agents may also be present.
