Abstract

A fluid base composition for use as a vehicle for toilet and cosmetic preparations contains in aqueous medium either ethyl alcohol or a mixture thereof with isopropyl alcohol; glycerine, and/or a monoglyceride; urea and/or a urethane; bile salts; and a thickening agent. The thickening agent is preferably an aqueous quince seed extract, but solutions of methyl cellulose may also be used. The bile salts may be in the form of commercial sodium taurocholate, or other preparations from ox gall. Optional additions include fused bentonite-sulphur, salicylic acid synthetic oil of Rose Neil and colouring agents. The composition may be in the form of a liquid, a cream or a paste and is compatible with soap solutions and creams to form shaving creams and shampoos. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the preparation having medicinal properties. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
