Abstract

A make-up cosmetic comprises an oil-and-water emulsion containing silica of an average particle size of from 0.015 to 5 microns in an amount sufficient to provide a de-lustering effect on the skin but not exceeding 10.5% by weight of the finished cosmetic. "Make-up cosmetic" is defined as a cosmetic consisting substantially of a vehicle which is an oil-and-water emulsion, with emulsifying agents, or an oil-and-water mixture with co-solvent polyols, or a blend of water with one or more polyols, with or without added emulsifiers. Polyols may be monohydric alcohols, polyhydric alcohols, or glycol ethers; other ingredients include pigments, perfumes, extenders, thinners, thickeners, film-forming agents and antiseptics or preservatives. The silica is preferably of pyrogenic origin. Examples are given for a leg make-up, an eye make-up, and for various compositions for unspecified use.
