Abstract

524,293. Soap compositions. CLAIROL, N. V. and MEYER, H. H. Jan. 26, 1939, No. 2685. [Class 91] [Also in Group IV] A preparation in stick, bar, cake or like compact solid form, for use in dyeing hair on the head, is obtained by mixing a water-soluble oxidation dye intermediate with an alkali, such as ammonia or sodium carbonate, and with water in amount insufficient to dissolve a substantial proportion of such intermediate, so as to form a thick paste, mixing this paste with partially dried soap chips, milling the mixture and plodding and cutting it to shape. There may also be incorporated (a) a soapless detergent such as one of the products sold under the registered Trade Marks "Gardinol" of "Igepon," and (b) fuller's earth, talc or a similar bulky powder. The finished sticks &c. may be coated with a thin layer of wax, paraffin, collodion or cellulose varnish as protection from oxidation by air. In examples, (1) p-toluylenediamine sulphate is mixed with ammonia solution and fuller's earth and pasted with water, the paste is milled with toilet soap chips and the mixture is plodded and cut to shape ; the product applied to hair moistened with hydrogen peroxide solution gives a brownish black dyeing ; (2) p-aminophenol is mixed with soda ash and the methyltauride of oleic acid and pasted with water, the paste is milled with toilet soap chips and the mixture is plodded and cut to shape ; the product dipped into hydrogen peroxide solution and applied to dry hair gives a reddish brown dyeing ; (3) m-toluylenediamine is mixed to a paste with ammonia solution, the paste is milled with toilet soap chips and the product is plodded and cut to shape ; the product applied to hair moistened with hydrogen peroxide solution gives a blonde dyeing.
