Abstract
An austenitic stainless steel alloy has a composition in per cent by weight, within the following range: C 0.1-0.3, P 0.15-0.4, Cu 0.5-3.25, Cr 12.0-30.0, Ni 3.0-35.0, Mn 0-8.0, the total content of Mn and Ni not exceeding 35.0, Fe the remainder. The alloy may also contain one or both of N at least 0.15, but no more than can be retained in solution, B 0.002-0.01, Si up to 1.0 and S up to 0.03. The alloy may be age hardened in the range 1200-1500 DEG F. and this treatment may, if desired, be preceded by solution treatment in the range 1950-2250 DEG F.
