Abstract

1,126,852. Stainless steels. CARPENTER STEEL CO. April 15, 1966 [Aug. 2, 1965], No. 16750/66. Heading C7A. A primarily martensitic stainless steel (not more than 20% retained austenite) has a composition within the following percentage ranges: - Cr 12-18 Co 18-26 Mo 1‹5-3‹5 Ni 0-3 Fe and impurities the balance. All or part of the Mo may be replaced by 1.2 to 1‹6 times as much W. The impurities may include: C up to 0.05 N up to 0À1 P up to 0‹03 S up to 0.03 Mn up to 0.5 Si up to 0.5 A1 up to 0‹5 Ti up to 0.5 After hot working the steel may be solution treated at 1400-1800‹ F. and aged at 900-1100‹ F.
