Abstract
856,606. Agricultural implements. SCHURMANN, F. June 30, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 22479/59. Class 6(1). A machine for thinning-out plants comprises a pair of land wheels 12, Fig. 2 (not shown), rotatably mounted on a carrier arm 6 pivoted to a connecting bar 1 a spring 20 being provided to urge the wheels 12 into contact with the ground, an arm 15 being pivoted on the shaft 8 and supporting a rotary thinning-out tool 17 mounted on a shaft driven by bevel gearing from the shaft 8, a spring 25 being provided to load the arm 15 to hold an adjustable roller 18 against the ground. The spring 25 is adjusted by means of a collar 27 and abuts against a plate on an arm 23 secured to a hub on the arm 6. Two bevel gears are freely rotatable on the shaft 8 and a pin is inserted through a hub of either gear and the shaft 8 so that by using both gears selectively the direction of rotation of the tools 17 can be reversed. The machine may be attached to an existing hoeing machine 3. Fixed blades 19 are attached to the arm 15 to hoe the ground between the plant rows.
