A machine for weeding between plant rows comprises two shafts 13, 14, each rotatable about a vertical axis and driven through gear boxes 15, 16, and each provided with freely rotatable cones 18, 19 for protecting the foliage of plants. Hoes 11, 12 are provided on the shafts 13, 14. As the cones 18, 19 abut against a plant they are forced apart against the action of a spring 17.
