Abstract

849,084. Crates. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N. V. Sept. 30, 1957 [Oct. 3, 1956], No. 30540/57. Class 18. A crate for several loose articles, e.g. television tube screens, comprises a bottom and side walls, the latter being built up of oblong wall elements provided with releasable interlocking means and stacked some on edge, some flat so as to provide supporting ledges within the crate for the articles at different levels. The wooden elements A and B are recessed respectively at 1 and 2 so as to interengage securely. By interfitting them with the wider surfaces of elements A horizontal and the wider surfaces of elements B vertical, further sets of compartments can be built up, the lowermost set being supported on a base. The articles c are stacked with their edges supported on the inwardly-facing margins of the elements A. A closure is placed over the topmost elements and the crate thus formed is secured by steel strapping. In a modification, the elements A are interfitted alternately with their wider surfaces horizontal and vertical, to form deeper compartments.
