Class 139 In an electric clock a D.C. motor 1 drives the going train and is connected to the escapement 5 through a spring 3. A pinion 19 in the going train meshes with a gear 20 on a spindle 11 which through a clutch 12, 13, 14 winds a spring 15 connected through gearing to an alarm, striking or chiming mechanism 10. When the spring 15 is fully wound the clutch 12, 13, 14 slips, the arm 14 being held against a pin 17, Fig. 2, fixed to the then stationary gear 16 until, upon release of the mechanism 10, the gear 16 is rotated by spring 15 to drive the mechanism 10.
