Abstract

218,487. Harwood, J., and Cutts, H. July 7, 1923. Cases, watch; winding- apparatus; setting - apparatus.-In watches wound automatically by a weight oscillated by the movement of the wearer overwinding is prevented by frictionally connecting the weight A to a plate D pivoted on the same spindle and carrying a spring-pressed pawl G which engages a ratchet wheel I operating the winding train. A counterpawl J is pivoted on the spindle K. The weight is provided with spring buffers A<1>. The frictional engagement between the weight and plate D is maintained by a spring E adjustably secured by screws F. The hands are set bv a contrate wheel on a rotary bezel which drives a pinion K<1> and spindle L. The spindle L has a projection P which first engages the set-hands gear M, O by working on a cam M<1> of the crown wheel and finally operates the gear by engaging the projections Q. The crown wheel is normally held disengaged by a spring-pressed pivoted lever S engaging the radial end R<1> of a spring R which surrounds the crown wheel and by which the crown wheel is held stationary during the operation of the cam by the projection P. To allow the hand-setting gear to be disengaged the bezel is rotated backwardly after operation through an angle corresponding to 5 minutes. Marks may be provided at, say, 10-minute intervals on the bezel to indicate the required backward rotation. The lever S may have a coloured disc adapted to show through an aperture in the dial when the hand-setting gear is disengaged.
