Abstract
846,604. Seals and sealing. NIEDECKER, [nee WEBER], E., [trading as WERKZEUGUND METALLWARENFABRIK O. NIEDECKER.]. Jan. 16, 1958 [Jan. 16, 1957; Dec. 7, 1957], No. 1630/58. Class 146(1). A strip of generally U shaped clips for sealing bags wherein each clip comprises two side arms 2 connected by a web 1, the end portions of the side arms are bent over outwardly, and the clips are connected to one another in a readily separable manner by the bent end portions. The strip S may be coiled up for storage, and is fed into a sealing machine through a channel 10 to a sealing position comprising a reciprocating cutter and ram 5 coacting with an anvil 9. Power, or foot pressure, operates the machine by levers 21, 20 and the ram 5 forces the bent-over ends 3 around the bag with the untreated edges 4 of the seal bearing on the back of the arms 2 so they do not come into harmful contact with the bag being sealed. After sealing a nose 22 on the lever 21 engages a bell crank 23 which shifts a slide rightwardly, Fig. 6, and a feed lever 16 engages the strip S and advances it. A spring returns the slide and a leaf spring 13 presses the strip down on the anvil for the next sealing operation.
