[Also in Group XVII] A sealing machine for successively deforming and attaching the leading clip of a strip of clips 1 on to an article comprises a base supported anvil 9a, a pivotal arm 20a carrying a sealing ram 5, a cutting shoulder 11a to which the leading clip is pressed by means 28-30 to ensure proper severing, and means 16a, 17a, 23, 32, for successively feeding the clips of the strip on to the anvil. The arm 20a is pivoted to the base 25 at 31 and during movement the lug 22a operates the feeding means 32, 23, 17a, 16a. The means for pressing the strip against the cutting shoulder 11a comprises a roller 52 on a rocking lever 29 which is spring biased by a plunger 30. The articles to be sealed are held in recesses 41, 45, Fig. 3, on arms 40, 43 pivoted together at 42 and to the base 25 at 37. There is a further pair of arms 39, 44, Fig. 3, and the two pairs are urged together by a spring 49 so that as a handle 46 moves the articles towards the sealing jaws, rollers 51, which bear against an arcuate rail 50 of increasing width, have the effect of spreading the arms 43, 40 and 39, 44 as they bring the article into position. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the strip feed mechanism is operated by a feed cam on the connecting rod 21a which is operated on eccentric disc drum by an electric motor.
