Class 130 [Also in Groups VIII and XVI] The leading end of a band A of sheet tobacco material is fed downwardly from feed rollers 1, 2, Fig 1, into a position in front of a substantially vertical suction surface 28 on a carrier member 27, severed by knife mechanism 43, and moved by rocking movement of the carrier 27 on to a substantially horizontal cigar rolling table 29. The leading end of the band A is drawn downwardly by a suction plate 30 carried by a guide member 5 which has racks 31 associated therewith which mesh with ratchet wheels on the feed roller 1, causing the roller 1 to rotate on downward movement of member 5 and remain stationary on its upward movement. The guide member 5 is moved in a slightly arcuate path, corresponding to the curvature of surface 28, by linkage mechanism 41, 39, 35, 37 actuated by a cam 42 and the suction chamber 26 therein is connected alternately to suction and to atmosphere by a cam-operated valve 22. The carrier 27 is carried by a hollow arm 12 pivoted on a hollow shaft 15 and is actuated by camoperated linkage 63, 65, 67, the suction chamber 27 being connected at appropriate times to suction or atmosphere through passages 12, 15, 20 and camoperated valve 21. The roller 2 is carried by levers 76 and held pressed against roller 1 by springs 87, the roller 1 having a rubber covered surface. Guide members 82 on the member 5 are held against freely pivoted rollers 7 on the shaft of roller 1. The knife mechanism comprises a stationary blade 44, Fig. 5, fixed to the top of carrier member 27, Fig. 1, co-operating with a pivoted blade 43 which swings at right angles to blade 44 prior to the band A being drawn downwardly and then moves inwardly to sever the band. The blade 43 is actuated by cam-operated linkage 48, 51, 56. The suction plates 30, 28 are replaceable by plates with different sized suction areas and the lower part 79 of member 5 is adjustable axially relative to the upper part 78 for bands of different widths, the arm 12 being similarly adjustable along its shaft 15.
