Abstract

A catalytic reformate is subjected to a mild catalytic hydrogenation process at 0-500 p.s.i.g. and 300-500 DEG F. to reduce the loss in octane number on exposure to air and light. The process is particularly valuable for reformates obtained using a platinum catalyst. Other conditions which may be used include a space velocity of 0,1-1,0 V/V/Hr., and 2,000-4,000 S.C.F./barrel of feed of hydrogen or hydrogenrich gas using a hydrogenation catalyst comprising one or more sulphides of Group VI or VIII metals, particularly a mixture of nickel and tungsten sulphides. The fraction of the reformate boiling between 100 and 138 DEG C. only may be treated and the hydrogenated product recombined with the remaining portions of the reformate. The process may be carried out as a continuous process with the reforming operation.
