Abstract

In a reforming process effected over a platinum-type or platinum catalyst at less than 32.5 kg./sq. cm. pressure to produce a gasoline of octane rating at least 100 (Research +3 cc. TEL) the feed is a naphtha having an octane rating of 81-98; this feed is preferably produced by reforming a naphtha, free of catalyst-poisoning impurities, at above 32.5 kg./sq. cm. over a reforming catalyst. In the higher pressure stage using several zones, the sum of the differences between inlet and exit temperatures in the zones in DEG F. is at least 2N where N is the volume per cent. of naphthenes in the charge while, in the lower pressure stage, such sum is not more than N. The charge is preferably first hydrogenated to remove sulphur, nitrogen, arsenic and lead impurities. Specifications 731,094, 742,966, 745,520, 745,522, 773,476 and 775,961 are referred to.
