Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0838702/IV (b)/1> where R is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, or 1-methyl-butyl; and the preparation thereof by reducing appropriately substituted diethyl malonates using lithium aluminium hydride, and treating the resulting 2-R-2-allyl-1 : 3-propanediols first with phosgene and then with ammonia. The products are psychotropics. Specification 751,440 is referred to.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions comprise compounds of the general formula <FORM:0838702/VI/1> where R is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or 1-methylbutyl, singly or compounded with other active agents such as hormones, steroids, antacids, anticholinergics and vitamins, incorporated into known pharmaceutical forms such as tablets, capsules and suspensions.
