Abstract

The invention comprises 2-(4-methylpiperazino)-ethyl-guanidine, its physiologically acceptable acid addition salts; the preparation thereof by reacting 2-(4-methylpiperazino)-ethylamine with an S-loweralkyl-iso thiourea or a salt thereof; and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. Pharmaceutical compositions having hypotensive activity comprise the guanidine or a salt thereof together with a carrier and may be formulated as tablets, dragees, capsules or solutions for injection. The compositions may contain other therapeutically active ingredients. Specified salts include the ascorbate and 4-amino-salicylate.
