Abstract

838,124. Optical-projection apparatus. WATSON, MANASTY & CO. Ltd. July 16, 1958 [July 18, 1957], No. 22833/57. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XIX] The apparatus comprises elements for forming on a screen juxtaposed episcopic and diascopic images respectively of a workpiece as seen from different planes at an angle. In the form shown light from a lamp 7 is collimated by a condenser 8 and reflected by a concave mirror 11 to illuminate a workpiece such as a type slug 4 for production of an episcopic image by the objective 5. A portion of the collimated beam is reflected by a mirror 9 and by a prism 10 so that the objective also forms a diascopic image of the profile of the end of the slug. The prism 10 equalises the two path lengths. In other embodiments the optical axes of the illuminating and projection systems are at right angles and plane mirrors provide the necessary allumination of the workpiece.
