Abstract
375,820. Optical systems. SMITH, W. H. and PRECISION TOOL & INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd., 72, Newington Butts, London. March 30, 1931, No. 9574. [Class 97 (i).] An optical apparatus for illuminating points or lines on objects such as screws &c. or the objects themselves comprises one or more mirrors, prisms or reflecting surfaces suitably mounted on the illumination side of a projector apparatus proper to enable the superposing of images of similar parts of objects, or to obtain virtual images of different parts in desired relationship for the purpose of projecting on to a screen. As shown in the Figure, light fiom a source Z passes through a condenser Y to reflectors A<1> illuminating an object X such as a gear wheel. Reflectors A<2> receive the image and pass it through a lens W which projects it on to a screen V. In a second form, the object is illuminated directly and the reflector system is between the object and the projecting lens. In a third form, a plain glass reflector arranged at an angle thiows the beam from the condenser on to the object and a concave reflector reflects the beam back through the plain glass reflector to the projecting lens. The carrier or support for the reflectors may be rotatable.
