Abstract
1,171,456. Optical contour inspection devices. TEXTRON Inc. Dec.9, 1966 [Dec.29, 1965], No.55281/66. Heading G2J. Optical projection apparatus for inspecting internal contours of a workpiece 25 includes a lamp and condenser 20 by which an image of knife-edge 21 is projected via objective 23 and mirrors or prisms 24a, 24b on to the internal face of the workpiece, and reflected in to double prism 26 for direction through lens 28 and mirror 29 on to translucent screen 30. The shape of the knifeedge image displayed is compared with a standard profile marked on the screen. The inner face of the workpiece 25 is rendered suitable for light scattering, if necessary by coating. In another form, the inner surface is reflective, the incident and reflected beams on the surface lying in a plane indirect to the plane normal to the contour. Variously shaped masks, Figs.5 - 8 (not shown), may replace the knife-edge.
