Abstract

An alloy steel, suitable for forming by casting valves and other parts of internal combustion engines, has a composition, in per cent by weight, in the following range: .C.0.9-1.6 .Si.0.6-1.2 .Mn.5.0-8.0 .Cr.15.0-25.0 .Ni.1.0-2.0 .N.0 -0.4 .Fe the remainder.. The alloy may be preciptation hardened by quenching from 2150 DEG F. and then heating to 1400 DEG F. for about 8 hours.
