Abstract
An alloy suitable for forming, by casting, components of gas turbine and other engines which are not subjected to temperatures above 500 DEG C. in use, has a composition in the following range in per cent by weight: C up to 0.12, Si 1.5-2.5, Cr 10.0-13.5, Mn 1.5-4.5, Ni 1.5-4.5, Fe and impurities the balance. The total of the contents of Mn and Ni being between 4.5 and 7.0. The alloy may be heat treated at a temperature in the range 600-650 DEG C. for not less than one hour and then cooled in air. Examples of alloys within the range are given, the examples containing specified proportions of S, P and N as impurities.
