Abstract
An alloy, suitable for the manufacture of structural parts which in normal use are subjected to the action of burnt lead-containing fuel, e.g. valves or parts of valves of internal-combustion engines, has the following composition: Cr 15.0-17.0 per cent, Ti 2.75-3.35 per cent, Mn 1.0-2.5 per cent, Fe not exceeding 8.0 per cent, C not exceeding 0.1 per cent, Si not exceeding 0.15 per cent, Ni, and impurities, the remainder. Al and Co may be present in the alloys up to 0.1 per cent and up to 1.0 per cent respectively. The alloys are used in the age-hardened condition e.g. after heating between 1070 and 1095 DEG C, cooling rapidly to below 705 DEG C, and heating for 16-20 hours at 705 DEG C. The first heating may be carried out as part of a hot-working operation. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 583,162, 583,845 and 626,204.
