Abstract
Alloys which are hot-workable, castable and weldable and are characterized by a retention of strength on prolonged exposure to mechanical stress at elevated temperatures above 1200 DEG F. and by resistance to attack by oxidizing and reducing corrosive media, have the following composition: Cr 15.0-25.0 per cent, Ni 2.0-25.0 per cent, Co 10.0-40.0 per cent, W 0.5-15.0 per cent, B 0.01-1.0 per cent, C 0.05-1.0 per cent, Nitrogen 0.05-0.25 per cent, Fe and incidental impurities forming the remainder, the Fe content being at least 5.0 per cent. Up to 8.0 per cent of Mo may be present. If Mo is absent the W content will be at least 7.5 per cent. The alloy may contain up to 2.0 per cent Mn, up to 1.0 per cent Si, and/or up to 2.0 per cent Al. One or more of the elements Nb, Ta, Ti, V may be present in an aggregate proportion of 0.5-3.0 per cent, the Ti percentage not exceeding 1.5, and the percentage of each of the other elements not exceeding 2.0.
