Abstract
835,164. Liquid fuel spray burners. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., J. Nov. 25, 1958 [Dec. 3, 1957], No. 37598/57. Class 75(1) In a liquid fuel spray nozzle comprising a shallow conical swirl chamber c provided with a discharge orifice d at its apex and a short cylindrical annular extension e at the base thereof having tangentially disposed fuel inlet ports f therein an axially deformable bellows o, in response to the incoming oil fuel pressure, operates an axially movable piston valve g to vary the effective area of the discharge ends of. the ports f. The bellows o may be evacuated or in communication with the swirl chamber c through a duct r in the valve g. The movement of the valve g for a given fuel pressure may be determined by the stiffness of the bellows o, a spring arranged within or around the bellows o, or by the stiffness of a pair of perforated flexible metal discs h or by any or all of these parts. When it is desired that the cone angle of the fuel issuing from the orifice d shall not vary with varying fuel pressures a short circular extension s with a circumference lip is provided on the front face of the valve g.
